Conference Details - Response Requested

CAMex Conference 2008, Being Disciple-Making Disciples, is now less than a month away! We are looking forward to seeing how God will work though this time. Here are a few last details:

1. Registration will take place between 3 and 4:30 PM on Friday, November 28. Our first session will start at 5:00 PM, and once again this year YOU WILL WANT TO BE IN YOUR SEATS ON TIME!

2. Conference will end on Monday, December 1, after comida – scheduled for 1:30 PM.

3. Please let me know ASAP if you need a hotel room either the night before or the night after conference.

4. Here are last year’s directions to the hotel – it should still be the same as last year except maybe cuota prices and construction areas.

5. We will be doing OUR LAST EVER FD and CD evaluations – CAMex missionaries please print them and fill them out to turn in at registration.

6. Our conference speaker, Dr. Randy Pelton, has asked us to interact with two questions:

(1) What have you found most frustrating about being a disciple while functioning as a missionary?

(2) What have you found most frustrating about making disciples while functioning as a missionary?

34 miles to 38.4 miles - Tramo en reparación (this may change by the time the conference rolls around).

46.2 miles Pemex (Rogelio's restaurant)

53.3 miles Exit for Oaxaca/Tehuacan libre. DO NOT EXIT. Keep straight towards Orizaba/Veracruz

61.5 miles, Caseta de cuota, Orizaba/Veracruz $96 pesos. From here it is 53 k/31 miles to Orizaba, 77 k/46 miles to Cordoba.

62.2 miles. Pemex/Italian Coffee. From here you are heading into the mountain pass, steep grade and often foggy.

66.5 miles Steep grade begins

67 miles Puebla/Veracruz state line

69.5 - 71.5 miles 4 Tunnels.

75 miles - break out of the pass to a vistas of Orizaba in the valley to your left. Several more miles of steep grade and curves ahead.

79 miles - bottom of the grade. Follow signs to Cordoba/Veracruz

82 miles Pemex

90 miles Pemex/Italian Coffee.

90.6 miles Pemex (Hotel Cascada).

Just past the Pemex/Hotel Cascada you will see an exit to Fortin on the libre. DO NOT EXIT HERE.

96.7 miles you will cross a big bridge across a deep canyon.

97.4 miles EXIT FORTIN/HUATUSCO. Exit here. Toll $10 pesos.

After toll, follow red and white signs to Hotel Fortin de las Flores.

Right after exit/toll

Go 2 streets/blocks, turn left

Continue to a T intersection

Turn right, cross railroad tracks.

Take the first left, you're there.

We'll meet you at the hotel reception area.

Conference CRAFT!!

Conference Craft

This year, we will not be doing a “lady specific” craft. This year it can involve up to the whole family. We will be constructing and decorating…

*Gingerbread Houses!

We will be judging the houses and will announce the winners during the

“Cup of Christmas” Coffee House.

If your family has more than four members participating, you may request materials for making an extra house.

Please write back to Lori Smith by Oct. 20 if your family wishes to participate and how many houses you would like to have prepared for you. (bsmith@caminternational.org)

*The fine print: Due to limited time and logistical challenges, these gingerbread houses will not be gingerbread; however, the icing and candies will be for real!

Prayer Calendar Picture & Requests

Please send me an updated family picture and 3 or 4 prayer requests to be included in the Prayer Calendar this year.

A quick response would be appreciated because I recently learned I won’t be around in Nov. I mean I’ll be in Illinois for my youngest daughter’s (Johanna) wedding. It hurts me to miss the CAMEX conference partly because it will ruin my “perfect attendance” but I’m sure you all understand that I can’t be in two places at once, and I haven’t been able to find a suitable substitute to go to Illinois for me. So instead of putting off this task of asking for pictures and prayer requests, I find myself in a situation to start asking for this information about one month earlier than I would have otherwise.

Our Invited Speaker - Dr. Randal Pelton

Randal Pelton’s life and ministry are fueled by a desire to expose people to the life-giving Word of God which displays the grace of God revealed in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Randal’s call to teach the Scriptures began early in his college days through the guidance of his local church pastor. His desire to teach the Bible drew him to attend New Brunswick Bible Institute (grad.1983), Washington Bible College (grad.1984), and Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Theology, 1989).

It was at DTS that Randal also began to take an interest in homiletics and to sense that he may one day be used to help train others to study and teach God’s Word. It was also in Dallas’ Inner City Bible Ministry that Randal became interested in Michele Miller. Randal and Michele were married in 1987. After two years of administration and teaching at Washington Bible College, Randal was certain that God was asking him to enter pastoral ministry to continue teaching the Bible and training future practitioners. He, Michele, and 9-month-old Moriah moved to Somerville, New Brunswick, Canada to begin pastoring The People’s Church in August of 1991. During those years God blessed Randal and Michele with two more children: Michael and Amanda. It was during those years that Randal’s passion for teaching the Christ-centered Scriptures and teaching others to teach them continued to grow. This led to his enrollment in Haddon Robinson’s Specialist Tract in Preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry, 1996).

After twelve plus years in New Brunswick, Canada and after a year and a half of asking for God’s direction, the Peltons decided to accept the Senior Pastor position of Calvary Bible Church, Mount Joy, PA, where Randal could continue teaching the Scriptures, studying hermeneutics and homiletics, writing, and training pastors as God gives opportunity. On a lighter note (pun intended), Randal and Michele enjoy lifting weights at Mount Joy Fitness (well, Michele at least tolerates the work outs!) and, much to the chagrin of his family, Randal enjoys learning to play the tenor saxophone.
